For Metro Test & Balance, keeping fabrication operations running efficiently demands more than reliable equipment. It requires a sheet metal fabrication partner that understands manufacturing realities and stands behind every machine. According to James Noto, vice president of Metro Test & Balance, that level of service and support is exactly what his team has found with 1987 Machinery.

“In my opinion, 1987 Machinery is second to none,” Noto says.

Having worked with many machinery and service companies over the years, he credits 1987 Machinery with bringing a different level of service that has helped Metro Test & Balance keep its shop and machines better maintained and in working order.

The partnership has included both service support and major equipment investments. One of the most significant was the purchase of a 20-foot laser table. Noto admitted he was initially apprehensive.

“It was pretty expensive,” he recalls. But 1987 Machinery’s Andrew Hess and Mike Hardesty walked him through the efficiency and productivity gains of laser cutting compared to plasma. The result validated the decision.

“It’s much faster, cleaner,” Noto explains, adding that the installation process was seamless. Today, that laser table is a game-changer for fabricating sheet metal in Metro Test & Balance’s shop.

The relationship didn’t stop there. Metro Test & Balance also purchased an Iowa Precision coil line through 1987 Machinery. While the equipment could have been sourced elsewhere, Noto details why he chose a different route.

“If I went to someone else, they would have just sold me the coil line,” he notes.

Instead, 1987 Machinery took on the additional responsibility of selling Metro Test & Balance’s old line and then installing the new one.

“Their expertise, technically and from a sales perspective, is what you want in a company,” Noto adds.

More importantly, he emphasizes the training and knowledge transfer that came with it. Rather than creating dependency, 1987 Machinery trains Metro Test & Balance’s team so they can handle most issues themselves, calling in support only when needed. And when support is needed, it’s close at hand.

“They’re a phone call away, an email away, or they’re here that day or the next day,” Noto says. For a manufacturing operation, that responsiveness is critical for a sheet metal fabrication partner.

“That level of partnership is priceless,” he concludes. “I’m glad they’re a partner of mine.”
